Author Visits

My very favorite thing to do as an author is to read to kids. I love the insights I get from them and the different ways they interpret what they hear. All of my school visits involve some version of my reading from my books, but visits can also incorporate other elements to give individual schools and classrooms the best experience.

My books are mysteries centered around lighthouses in Michigan, North Carolina, and Northern California (special places in my own life). Each place has its own trilogy of books (and puzzle books), but the main characters are the same. The books are geared toward third graders to read on their own, but have been very successful to read aloud with younger groups and as independent reading for older, more reluctant readers.

  • Teachers already have enough on their plates, so this workshop provides some ideas and assistance for teaching using my books. The accompanying curriculum guide offers ideas for incorporating Sam and Becky’s adventures into all subject areas, from English to Music to Science. There’s even a set of customized games to play at recess. Curriculum packages also include lists of vocabulary words as well as master pages for handouts and activities.
